« Psalms 5Psalms 7 »
BBE KJV

The writer deprecates God's anger, and begs for the return of his favour

«To the chief music-maker on corded instruments, on the Sheminith. A Psalm. Of David.» O Lord, do not be bitter with me in your wrath; do not send punishment on me in the heat of your passion. To the chief Musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David. O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am wasted away: make me well, for even my bones are troubled. Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed.
My soul is in bitter trouble; and you, O Lord, how long? My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long?
Come back, O Lord, make my soul free; O give me salvation because of your mercy. Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake.
For in death there is no memory of you; in the underworld who will give you praise? For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
The voice of my sorrow is a weariness to me; all the night I make my bed wet with weeping; it is watered by the drops flowing from my eyes. I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.
My eyes are wasting away with trouble; they are becoming old because of all those who are against me. Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies.

He assures himself of an answer of peace

Go from me, all you workers of evil; for the Lord has given ear to the voice of my weeping. Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.
The Lord has given ear to my request; the Lord has let my prayer come before him. The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.
Let all those who are against me be shamed and deeply troubled; let them be turned back and suddenly put to shame. Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly.
