The transfiguration of Christ

And after six days Jesus takes with him Peter, and James, and John, his brother, and makes them go up with him into a high mountain by themselves. After six days, Jesus took with him Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain by themselves.
The Transfiguration (Matthew 17:2-3)
And he was changed in form before them; and his face was shining like the sun, and his clothing became white as light.
He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his garments became as white as the light.
And Moses and Elijah came before their eyes, talking with him. Behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them talking with him.
And Peter made answer and said to Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if you will let me, I will make here three tents, one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah. Peter answered, and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you want, let’s make three tents here: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
While he was still talking, a bright cloud came over them: and a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my dearly loved Son, with whom I am well pleased; give ear to him. While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. Behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”
And at these words the disciples went down on their faces in great fear. When the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces, and were very afraid.
And Jesus came and put his hand on them and said, Get up and have no fear. Jesus came and touched them and said, “Get up, and don’t be afraid.”
And lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, but Jesus only. Lifting up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus alone.
And when they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus gave them orders, saying, Let no man have word of what you have seen, till the Son of man has come again from the dead. As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, “Don’t tell anyone what you saw, until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.”
And his disciples, questioning him, said, Why then do the scribes say that Elijah has to come first? His disciples asked him, saying, “Then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
And in answer he said, Elijah truly has to come and put all things right: Jesus answered them, “Elijah indeed comes first, and will restore all things,
But I say to you that Elijah has come, and they had no knowledge of him, but did to him whatever they were pleased to do; the same will the Son of man undergo at their hands. but I tell you that Elijah has come already, and they didn’t recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted to. Even so the Son of Man will also suffer by them.”
Then the disciples saw that he was talking to them of John the Baptist. Then the disciples understood that he spoke to them of John the Baptizer.

Jesus casts out a dumb and deaf spirit

Jesus Healing the Lunatic (Matthew 17:14-15)
And when they came to the people, a man went down on his knees to him, saying,
When they came to the multitude, a man came to him, kneeling down to him, saying,
Lord have mercy on my son: for he is off his head, and is in great pain; and frequently he goes falling into the fire, and frequently into the water. “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is epileptic, and suffers grievously; for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water.
And I took him to your disciples, and they were not able to make him well. So I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him.”
And Jesus, answering, said, O false and foolish generation, how long will I be with you? how long will I put up with you? let him come here to me. Jesus answered, “Faithless and perverse generation! How long will I be with you? How long will I bear with you? Bring him here to me.”
And Jesus gave orders to the unclean spirit, and it went out of him: and the boy was made well from that hour. Jesus rebuked him, the demon went out of him, and the boy was cured from that hour.
Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said, Why were we not able to send it out? Then the disciples came to Jesus privately, and said, “Why weren’t we able to cast it out?”
And he says to them, Because of your little faith: for truly I say to you, If you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, Be moved from this place to that; and it will be moved; and nothing will be impossible to you. He said to them, “Because of your unbelief. For most certainly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
[] But this kind doesn’t go out except by prayer and fasting.”

He again gives word before of his troubles and pain

And while they were going about in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of man will be given up into the hands of men; While they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men,
And they will put him to death, and the third day he will come again from the dead. And they were very sad. and they will kill him, and the third day he will be raised up.” They were exceedingly sorry.

He works a miracle to pay the tribute money

And when they had come to Capernaum, those who took the Temple tax came to Peter and said, Does not your master make payment of the Temple tax? When they had come to Capernaum, those who collected the didrachma coins came to Peter, and said, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the didrachma?”
He says, Yes. And when he came into the house, Jesus said to him, What is your opinion, Simon? from whom do the kings of the earth get payment or tax? from their sons or from other people? He said, “Yes.” When he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, “What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive toll or tribute? From their children, or from strangers?”
And when he said, From other people, Jesus said to him, Then are the sons free. Peter said to him, “From strangers.” Jesus said to him, “Therefore the children are exempt.
But, so that we may not be a cause of trouble to them, go to the sea, and let down a hook, and take the first fish which comes up; and in his mouth you will see a bit of money: take that, and give it to them for me and you. But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up. When you have opened its mouth, you will find a stater coin. Take that, and give it to them for me and you.”
